Welcome to Newcastle Orienteering Club

Orienteering is a competitive or non-competitive recreational activity in which participants use a detailed map, and usually a compass, to navigate between checkpoints on an unfamiliar course in bush terrain, parkland or urban areas.

If you like a physical and mental challenge while exploring the outdoors, orienteering is the sport for you!

Newcastle orienteers in National Non-elite Rankings

Orienteering Australia has published its annual National Non-elite Rankings for 2024, with four Newcastle club members ranked in the top three in their age class (elites have a separate ranking system based on National League results)

Rebecca Craig (M18, equal 1st) and Jenny Enderby (W55) are ranked first nationally for 2024. Stephen Craig (M50) ranked second and Carolyn Matthews (W60) ranked third in her class.

Ranking points are awarded for each A class championship event completed that had at least four starters, with 100 points awarded for first place and lesser points for other competitors. The 2024 rankings were determined by an orienteer's best three results from the races in the Easter 3-Days Championships held in South Australia and the Australian Championships Long, Middle & Sprint races held around Armidale.

Other Newcastle orienteers making the Top 10 list with more than 50 points in their respective age class were:                                                                                                    W10 - 5.Lucy Jenkins, 7.
