Welcome to Newcastle Orienteering Club

Orienteering is a competitive or non-competitive recreational activity in which participants use a detailed map, and usually a compass, to navigate between checkpoints on an unfamiliar course in bush terrain, parkland or urban areas.

If you like a physical and mental challenge while exploring the outdoors, orienteering is the sport for you!

34th Hunter Valley Champs

Event: 34th Hunter Valley Championships
Location: Wallaroo, Raymond Terrace
Planner: Denis Lyons
Entries: 72
Weather: Perfect to warm
Rego: Denis Lyons
Finish: Bob Montgomery, Bob Gilbert
Control Collect: Shane Jenkins, Denis Lyons, David Kitchener, Margaret Peel, Peter Newton, others???

A newer extenision to an existing map was used today for the Hunter Valley Champs. The area had a very recent reduction burn, and for the most part offered relatively unhindered movement, with some other areas offering low visibility.

A few Sydneysiders took the opportunity for some extra training for the upcoming major events to be run in Vic, ACT and the Masters in Sydney/Lithgow.

Alex Massey adds his name to an impressive lists of male "Champions" something he can look back at with pride. Tracy Marsh from Bigfoot took out the Women's championship with Karen Blatchford the "resident" champion. Note: a lot of the men in the medium red were upset Tracy had so easily beaten them until they were told her maiden name.
