State Middle & Long Champs Results
The weekend of 12 & 13 September saw around 200 orienteers compete in the NSW Middle & Long Distance Championships, held in Tuckland State Forest between Gulgong & Dunedoo. Both events were organised by Newcastle Orienteering Club.
Saturday's Middle Distance, set by Steve Roberts with Goldseeker's Anna Fitzgerald controlling, was run on "Gulgaba Gullies", a new map drawn by Ian Dempsey. Sunday's Long Distance, set by Arthur Kingsland with Geoff Todkill controlling, saw a long-awaited return to "Tuckland State Forest", originally mapped by Graham Fowler for the 2007 NSW Championships and recently updated by Rob Vincent.
Newcastle’s champions in the Middle Distance were Alyse Newton (W10A), Hayley Jenkins (W12A), Isobel Newton (W14A), Presley Scouller-Evans (M14A), Baxter Peel (M16A), Nicole Haigh (W35A), Justin Stafford (M40A), Samantha Howe (W45A), Jennifer Enderby (W55A), Scott Simson (M55A), Robert Vincent (M65A) & Graham Fowler (M85A).
Short class winners were Nathan Berkholz (M21AS), Clare Newton (W45AS) & Robert Preston (M65AS).
Topping their classes in the Long Distance champs were Lucy Jenkins (W10A), Julian Altmann (M10A), Hayley Jenkins (W12A), Isobel Newton (W14A), Baxter Peel (M14A), Justin Stafford (M40A), Jennifer Enderby (W55A), Stephen Craig (M55A), Carolyn Matthews (W60A), Robert Vincent (M65A) & Graham Fowler (M85A).
Short class winners were Caroline Jenkins (W45AS), Emile Altmann (M45AS), Sharon Burgess (W55AS), Lynda Hewson (W65AS) & Robert Preston (M65AS).
