Newcastle orienteers in National Non-elite Rankings
Orienteering Australia has published its annual National Non-elite Rankings for 2026, with seven Newcastle club members ranked in the top three in their age class (elites have a separate ranking system based on National League results).
Jenny Enderby ranked first nationally in W55. Ranking second in their age class were Alyse Newton (W10), Baxter Peel (M14) and Peter Preston (M40). Julian Altmann (M10), Lucy Jenkins (W10) and Carolyn Matthews (W60) were ranked third.
Ranking points are awarded for each A class championship event completed that had at least four starters, with 100 points awarded for first place and lesser points for other competitors. The 2026 rankings were determined by an orienteer's best overall three results from the races in the Australian 3-Days Championships held in Tasmania, and the Oceania Championships Middle, Long & Sprint races held in the ACT.
Other Newcastle orienteers making the Top 10 list with more than 50 points in their respective age class were: M10 - 6. Koen Stafford; W12 - 7. Hannah Stafford; W14 - 6. Isobel Newton; M14 - 4. Presley Scouller-Evans; M40 - 4. Justin Stafford; M50 - 8. Greg Newton; M55 - 4. Scott Simson, 5. Stephen Craig; W60 - 6. Gayle Quantock; M65 - 4. Geoff Todkill; M75 - 8. Jim Lee.
